A Breed Standard is the guideline which describes the appearance & temperment of a breed.
A Bulldog is the common name for a breed of dog also referred to as the English Bulldog. Other Bulldog breeds include the American Bulldog and the French Bulldog. The Bulldog is a muscular heavy dog with a wrinkled face and a distinctive pushed-in nose. The American Kennel Club (AKC), The Kennel Club (UK) and the United Kennel Club (UKC) oversee breeding standards.
English Bulldogs are very sweet & docile in personality. They make great family pets & do great in homes with children & other pets due to thier friendly & patient nature as well as they love children. They are a gentle dog & not pumped up with hyperactive energy. Most Englsih Bulldogs are very playful as puppies, but as they grow into adulthood they become more calm & relaxed. Being that they are a pretty lazy dog & don't require alot of exercise they do great in small homes & apartments.
Bulldogs are extremely loyal to thier family & extremely affectionate towards thier owners & espiecally little children. They want as much attention from the family as they can get, and if they are not getting the attention that they desire they can become very mischievious.
Temperment
The Bulldog is a breed with characteristically wide shoulders and a matching head. There are generally thick folds of skin on a Bulldog's brow, followed by round, black, wide-set eyes, a short muzzle with characteristic folds called "rope" above the nose, with hanging skin under the neck, drooping lips, and pointed teeth. The coat is short, flat and sleek, with colors of red, fawn, white, brindle (mixed colors, often in waves or irregular stripes), and piebald.
In the US, the size of a typical mature male is about 55-60 pounds and that for mature females is about 45 pounds for a Standard English Bulldog. In the United Kingdom, the breed standard is 55 pounds for a male and 50 pounds for a female.
While some canine breeds have their tails cut or docked soon after birth, Bulldogs are one of very few breeds whose tail is naturally short and curled.
