How are English Bulldogs with children, other pets & strangers?
English Bulldogs are considered one of the best dog breeds for children as they are abosolutely wonderful with children & the elderly, thanks to thier gentle nature & patience. English Bulldogs are very friendly & playful as well as they love to cuddle & these are just a few of the reasons why they are so good with children. Other reasons why the English Bulldog is so good with children is that they are very loyal, loving, patient, & affectionate. English Bulldogs are also very protective & this is probably seen the most in how they are with children, elderly & other animals. It's in thier nature to defend those who they sense as smaller.
English Bulldogs are a perfect choice for those who already have other dogs, cats, & other non-canine pets in the home. They share the same living space with other animals well as they get along with other animals & they don't play real rough as they are aware of their own strengths. When it comes to strange dogs that they don't see as followers in thier pack entering into thier home, they can be very guarded & try to send them away, however if welcoming a new pet in the home they will welcome them once they realize that they are part of the pack.
Some English Bulldogs are very friendly with strangers wanting to greet every new person they meet, others of more reserved & quietly sit back not paying much mind to the new people, & a few English Bulldogs are on guard with strangers watching to make sure they are not causing any harm to thier loved ones.
Important information on Bulldogs & the summer heat
English Bulldogs are sensitive to hot weather as well as all short snouted breeds of dogs & they are are suseptable to heat stroke in the summer. Here are some tips to protect your English Bulldog during the summer months:
- Never leave your English Bulldog alone outside in the heat for very long periods at a time. Take your English Bulldog out long enough to go potty & then right back in the airconditioned house. If you have to leave the house then you need to have your English Bulldog inside with airconditioning before you leave.
- If you do go outside with your English Bulldog be sure to have fresh cold water down for your English Bulldog & some shade where your English Bulldog can get relief from the sun's direct heat. Be sure to keep a very close eye on your English Bulldog. If your English Bulldog is panting that's ok as panting is how your English Bulldog lose's body heat, if it sounds like an asthma attack then immediately stand him in cold water. English Bulldogs only sweat through the pads of their feet & standing your English Bulldog in cold water has the same effect as putting a cold flannel on your head when you are hot. If your English Bulldog is not cooling down very quickly then pour cold water over his head & around his neck. Keep your English Bulldog in the cold water until his breathing has calmed down, then remove him, but do not dry him off.
- It's a very good idea to put out a kiddy swimming pool with just enough water for your English Bulldog to splash around in or just wade or sit in whichever your English Bulldog prefers. This will give them a great deal of relief from the heat as well as fun & if you have children they will most likely get a kick out of watching thier English Bulldog splash around in the pool, as English Bulldogs can get pretty comical.
- Make sure to keep Real Lemon juice in your refridgerater to use when your English Bulldog is overheated. Squirt the lemon juice into the back of your English Bulldogs throat to break up the phlegm in your English Bulldogs throat, your English Bulldog won't like it, but it's for his own good.
- Never leave your English Bulldog alone in a automobile for any amount of time at anytime of the year, if the sun shines in the windows it could cause the temperture to get very warm in thier.
- If taking your English Bulldog for a walk during the summer months, walk your English Bulldog during the coolest times of the day, before 10 AM & after 7 PM.

Socializing Your English Bulldog Puppy
Socialization is very important for English Bulldog puppies. We begin the process of socializing the English Bulldog puppies & when the English Bulldog puppies leave to thier new forever homes it's important that thier new owners continue socializing them. Exposing your English Bulldog puppy to new people, places & other dogs will help your English Bulldog puppy to become a well-balanced English Bulldog. English Bulldogs with a lack of socialization can become fearful or aggressive because they are not familiar that sort of interaction.
Socializing an English Bulldog puppy is very easy, just bring your English Bulldog puppy with you when you go places & show your English Bulldog puppy off. If certain places cause any fearful reaction in your English Bulldog puppy then you should take your English Bulldog puppy to these places more often to be introduced into those situations. A puppy daycare or puppy kindergarden class is a good environment for your English Bulldog puppy.
